Playing with Blocks by Lara Tallman

    incessantly it blinks
    cursor
    censor
    harbinger of writer’s block

    words eek and groan
    tongue swells
    heart sputters
    thoughts roll and tumble

where are the kind, open spaces
    that welcome and inspire
    where is the smooth page
    the well-inked quill
    homecoming for my quaking words

    tears
    sighs
    stilted finger strokes
    they will come

    they will come
    they will come
    they must come

    blinking
    blinking
    blinking nightmares

~ Playing with Blocks by Lara Tallman

YIPPEE!!! Welcome Lara Tallman to “Yes-vember”!!!  I can soooo feel that blinking cursor while my whole brain shuts down…..

Lara is an amazing woman with LOTS going on in her life. She is so very very heart-centered and AUTHENTICALLY REAL. I’m so happy she dug down into her CREATIVITY and plucked this poem out to share with us — LIVE EXPRESSIVELY! GREAT example of trusting The Poet’s Way Path!

From Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert: “I decided to trust it.

My single greatest expression of stubborn gladness has been the endurance of that trust.

A particularly elegant commentary on this instinct came from the Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney, who said that — when one is learning how to write poetry — one should not expect it to be immediately good. The aspiring poet is constantly lowering a bucket only halfway down a well, coming up time and again with nothing but empty air. The frustration is immense. But you must keep doing it, anyway.

After many years of practice, Heaney explained, ‘the chain draws unexpectedly tight and you have dipped into waters that will continue to entice you back. You’ll have broken the skin on the pool of yourself.’

Everyday is an opportunity to practice living The Poet’s Way in your life and work:

Start Authentically: In your heart, there is a desire. Waiting for you. Listen. Let yourself travel to the place of YOU. You are not serving yourself or others if you cannot be real. Everything falls apart if not grounded in authenticity.

Explore Creatively: Map it out with your true compass points: trust, love, peace, and joy. Where does this take you? Open up the possibilities. Let the words and the feelings flow. Your soul needs you to create!! (Read Liz Gilbert’s Big Magic if you don’t believe me!) Swim in possibilities. Expand your world.

Live Expressively: Put on your courage pants — pick a piece of creativity  and …. Say it. Mail it. Dance it. Perform it. SHARE IT!!! We see you and appreciate you!!
